of course not jus tide him up with a thick chain and make sure he's in a place away from people, but the thing is that he'll become more aggressive so to avoid this try to take him to a walk unleast once a week

If you have an agressive or overly protective pit bull while guests are over you can try to train them to sit and stay in a spot. like a corner in a room with a blankit or bedding. my pit bulls all have a favorit spot they lay down in when guests are over. If that doesnt work crate traning mite be the best thing for your bully breed.

There is an old saying, Punnish the deed not the breed. for those sceptiable about Pit Bulls you should get to know the breed first befor you judge them. Its just like being afraid or racist agnst othere races. Until you get to know them you shouldnt judge them.

I am somewhat of the same thing as you are and I say if your land lord wants to be an asswhole then move and if your kids friends parents say their kids can't play with your kids because of the dog then your kids don't need to hang out with those stupid peoples kids cause the stupid is contagus so keep the dog loose every thing else.

Yes, you should consider giving him up to a ACPCA member. I did the same thing with my pit. He is now being shown in dog shows and couldn't be happier with the one on one time he receives from his new owner. Not to mention that he is no longer chained like in the past, but is kept inside a kennel. This is the best thing I could have done for him.

I have 2 red nose pit bulls and I had no idea just how bad the hype was on them until now. I grew up breeding pits, they were our family dog and there were 5 kids in my family and growing up we had a total of 4 pits. I think that it is an infringement on peoples rights to tell them what kind of dog they can/cant domesticate. If you do the research, you will find legit, reliable sources tell you that pound per pound pit bulls are the smartest, strongest, and most versital in training. Unfortunatley, peoples ignorance has brought it to a point where some of us can't even find a place to live. In response to your question, hell no! Don't get rid of that dog, he could save yours or your childs life one day. The loyalty that these dogs posses is amazing and the whole behavior myth that they "snap" is totally, scientifically unfounded. Give people a chance to get to konw your dog, I have found that people have soft spots, and are amazed when they see just how well behaved and affectionate my dog is. Lets educate these ignorant people who believe anything the media hype tells them! I sympathize with you 100%, and if you or anyone has advice about finding a place to rent that will allow pit bulls, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 4 month old pitbull. She is great with my three kids. I got her from a friend who was moving. The only thing I am trying l am having trouble with is socialization. They never introduced her tonew people or animals. I just got her 4 days ago. She barks and growls uncontrolably whenever she hears a noise, or if someone comes in the house. Even if she has met them before. Any suggestions? People are already saying get rid of her, she is going to bite my 2 year olds' head off. How rude. We already love her. My dad and aunt always had pits. Never an issue, but now that i have kids, peoples words are making my stomache turn. What are the statistics of family pits attacking family members? The woman that just got her face eaten off while she was sleeping( a Lab)perfect family dog???? If we are pets with care, love , and respect. They will do the same right?

You should breed the dog, take the pick of the litter. Then put your dog up for adoption. then raise the pup to be freindly to your family and friends. then you can name the new puppy pit J.R

I cannot believe the ignorance shown on this forum! Some of you sound like you haven't been through grammar school and you are giving advice?! I have not only worked in animal shelters and animal hospitals, but I have two pit bulls right now that are absolutely the most friendly dogs you would ever meet. For all you freaks out there who are trying to make your dogs mean, I must say, bravo! Your stupidity may one day cost us all our loving pets! Get over yourselves and fight your own fights! Leave the dogs out of it. And another thing for all you out there with horror stories about pits attacking other dogs--duh! They have been created for that exact reason! Yes, many of them, if raised around other dogs can be friendly, but don't ever expect them to like other dogs all the time! We made them this way. And one last thing: you are making a big mistake by even assuming that dog aggression is the same as being dangerous towards people. The dogs were bred to be fighting machines with other dogs, and had to have great judgement during the heat of a fight so that if their owners had to separate them they wouldn't get bitten. A lot of poorly bred pits now don't seem to have that trait any longer, but true representatives of the breed will never ever bite a person! That was never their intended use! Any pit bull that does bite a person by definition is not correct type for the breed and should be put down, and absolutely never bred. That is why we are in the sad state we are in now.

and as for the post right before they puppy post i will totally agree with you it is people like them that make is so hard for us people that really love these dogs to survive I just had to move to a diffrent conuty because the one I was in banned American Pits and Stafs. This is such a sad time in life when you can not even own a animal in a certain place because of the stupidity of others.I strongly belive that people that get these big bad macho dogs to fight need to be put ina ring with a big bad maco man and have the he^^ kicked out of them. GOD made these animals and man repays him by having fun by killing them... Mostly for the money of it all if they would get off there a**es and get a educationa and a job they could make more money treating these dogs and animals in the vet science than killing them off... I breed these dogs not to make money but improve no thats not the right word to preserve there lines they way they should be. Most of these dogs that are fought are not even TRUE American Pits they all have huge heads and weigh way too much they are fighting dogs there is a diffrence and it makes me SICK

pit bulls have gotten a bad rep. i tell all my friends it depends on the way they were raised.i would start letting people you want him to know come over one at a time and spend time with him. but do not rush it cause all the comotion will scare your dog. i raise pits and i am very picky on who gets them. i loves my dogs and so do my friends. that's cause i have had them around all kinds of people. just let your dog tell you.you will know if he or she is ready for visitors or not.

HEY GIRLS
WANNA TALK

Name: Leandra | Date: Feb 17th, 2006 8:54 PM
Hey about you puppy NOOO this is not normal for a puppy to act this way you should really take care when training your dog it is ok to play with your puppy but when you say play time is OVER IT SHOULD BE OVER when play time starts take some treats with you small treats play and say NO MORE or a key word and set him down with your hand put your hand flat palmed in his face if he jumps at you say NO and set him again keep this up til play time is over then give him a treat let him calm down then play again. Do this everyday till all is better rough play time is a sign of aggress. he is telling you that he is more dominate over you.. This does not mean your dog is a killer and will never be a good dog he just needs a firm but loving hand...Good luck
