I have a blue pit and I would be devastated if I had to get rid of him, he has never once growled, nipped or done anything aggresive. We actually had neighbors buy a pits because of him. There is 1 lady on this block that is against people having pits period. The German Shepard we had was more aggresive then our pit! And friends WERE afraid of her so got rid of her. The only problem I have with him his he licks on ANYONE continuously, because he thinks everyone likes him!

I make arrangments for my pit to be put in my bedroom if there is anyone coming over that is afraid of him and if it is ok with their parents, I slowy introduce him to the other kids.

And Shawn you really shouldn't train your dog to attack on demand, if you are in a dangerous situation your dog will protect you regardess.

I also need to mention that when I first got him, I was prego and when the baby was born he was more afraid of her, then we were of him being around her, since then he has watched me carry another baby and bring her home too, he loves ALL of my 5 children. He has never once got aggresive towards any one even if they pull on his ears!! He is a GREAT family dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact the pound were we got him from suggested that he be placed with a family!

Name: CAROLE | Date: Dec 20th, 2005 6:15 PM
MY DAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND HAVE PIT BULL MIX. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THEIR BABY, AND SPOILED ROTTEN. ONCE LAST YEAR WHEN I HAD BROUGHT MY GRANDSON TO HER HOUSE, FOR NO REASON AT ALL, HE GOT IN HIS FACED, GROWLED, AND SHOWED TEETH. THEY PUNISHED HIM. NOW THEY HAVE THEIR OWN BABY, BORN IN MARCH. HE HAS BEEN GOOD WITH THE BABY UNTIL NOW. THE BABY IS CRAWLING,AND TRYING TO WALK. SHE HAS PUT UP THE DOG'S TOYS, SO THE BABY WON'T TEASE HI. BUT THE DOG HAS BEEN GETTING THE BABY'S FACE, AND HER'S GROWLING. I KNOW IT' S JEALOUSY, BUT SHOULD SHE GET RID OF HIM. UP UNTIL NOW, HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN DOCILE (EXCEPT THAT TIME LAST YEAR WITH OUR GRANDSON. SHOULD SHE GET RID OF HIM?

I'd say YES! Sounds to me like its imminent that this dog is going to bite this baby. Growling and showing his teeth are a pretty clear warning sign. I wouldnt take the chance of having my baby attacked.. get rid of the dog now.

DO NOT GET RID OF THE DOG, HOWEVER, DO NOT GIVE THE NEWS MEDIA ANOTHER BIG STORY. I HAVE PITS AND WHEN CHILDREN COME OVER THE DOGS ARE MADE TO GO OUTSIDE, I WILL NOT GET RID OF MY DOGS, BUT I WILL NOT JEOPARDIZE THEIR LIVES TRYING TO PROVE A POINT TO ANYONE, BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. KEEP YOUR DOG AND USE YOUR HEAD.

I bought an american pitbull terrier with shots, papers, dewormed and the puppy was 3months old at the time. I had to give him up because my landlord won't accept those kinds of dogs; but he was really sweet. This man breeds his pitbulls and sells the pups for $150 to $250 depending on which one you want and they all have papers, shots and are dewormed. I wish I had kept my puppy b/c my son missed him so much for the first week he was gone. So don't give your dog up unless he/she is showing agressiveness.

YOU REALLY MUST BE LOST, THIS WEBSITE IS NOT ABOUT MISTREATING CHILDREN, IT IS ABOUT TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO RAISE THESE DOGS, AND MIX THEM WITH THE CHILDREN. YOU NEED TO GO TO A WEBSITE ABOUT POOR LITTLE CHILDREN WHO MIGHT NEED YOUR HELP, WE CHOOSE TO SPEND OUR ENERGY ON EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT THE WONDERFUL BUT MISUNDERSTOOD PITBULL. WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING ON THIS WEBSITE, AND WHAT THE HECK WERE YOU READING? PLEASE GET LOTS OF PEOPLE TO SEE THIS WEBSITE, SO I CAN ALSO TELL THEM HOW GREAT THESE DOGS ARE, PLEASE RESPOND AND EXPLAIN YOURSELF AND THE STATEMENT YOU MADE. I MUST ALSO SAY I LOVE LITTLE CHILDREN, AND I AM GLAD THE LADY IS LOOKING FOR HELP IN KEEPING HER PITBULL AND CHILDREN TOGETHER, AND TO M.ANNE, BUY A NICE DOG KENNEL FOR YOUR BACK YARD, AND PUT THE DOG IN IT WHEN THE CHILDREN ARE HAVING COMPANY. IF YOU GET RID OF THE DOG, YOU WILL TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THAT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT YOU THINK, WHEN YOU TAKE A DOG YOU ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT DOG FOR ITS LIFETIME, I KNOW I DO.

I'm sorry but I rescued a pitt bull that was only 5 months old from the animal shelter. She was so sweet and obviously mistreated. I'm sorry I cant spell today. Anyway, the city I am from warned me that these dogs could be aggressive. I brought her home and no sooner did I get her in the door she attacked my little beagle. She literally would not let go of his neck. My husband had to put his thumb in her mouth to get her to let go. He had to pry her mouth open. After, he was finally about to get her to release my dogs neck she clamped down on his thumb and fractured it. Luckily our dog escaped from serious injury but my husband did not. Although, he is doing fine now which we thank God. Our vet, the city, the police department, all the doctors at the hospital said that these are very dangerous animals. I read about the breed and thought it was the owner fault but after going thru what we did, I am convinced that they should totally ban the breed.

Just wanted to say that I have a 12 year old pit bull and two kids 6 and 2 with one more on the way. My dog has had surgeries, she has arthritis and yet she has never been aggresive towards anyone yet alone a child. She is a big baby. If she is not asleep in my bed she is asleep with my 6 yr old son. I have raised her since she was 4 weeks old. She is great with my cats and my other dog but she is very pet aggresive if she sees a strange dog. I truley believe that it all depends on the dog. Any dog of any breed can be aggresive. I have even known mean labs. It is best to get a puppy and raise it around your children. Good luck!

To missteri2all. miss terri, you are typical of the uneducated pit bull owners in our societey. I am always surprised when pit bull owners who have not put in the months and months of necessary training it takes to make these puppies into responsible adults then complain about the breed. Why is it that these irresponsible owners continue to place both the dogs and their families in harms way. Being a pit owner, (this is my third one), I can tell you that if you do not take your dog to a competent trainer, or at least take yourself to a competent trainer, you have done this maginficent animal a true disservice. Why should I take advice from someone who cannot even spell correctly? And you are the exact individual whose face will be on camera when their abused, unattended animal attacks someone. Once again, a true disservice to the breed and to those of us who are responsible pit owners. Its always fun to see these individuals interviewed by the press, as they eloquently try to defend the fact that their lunatic animal harmed someone. The true fact that you are dancing around is that YOU are very unpredictable. Exactly how much time each day to you spend reviewing and reinforcing your dogs training? The breed is not a family kind of dog? Then why is this animal spending one more second in your care? Unbelievable. Thanks for nothing miss teri. As of this month in California, breed specific legislation is now in place, thanks to the wonderfully educated masses who are abusing this wonderful breed. Placing children in a closed room with 2 pits, one of which is in heat, and with an attack history....God, I could go on for days, but sometimes I ask myself why... I do know that I have been honored to own these animals, and I will continue to do so for the rest of my life.

NO! Maybe you could get a chain, axle and dog house and just put him outside when someone narrow-minded desides to drop by.

I have the same problam,my dog growling at guests in the house.I think its because my wife is pregnent.I try and calm him down. He's not too bad when i am there,(the same room). If i leave the room, New Year he jumped at my friends wife to atack. But children he is very good with. Well he gets tied up outside for it,for a few hours. He has bitten twice, both times were justified.1st defending my wife from a man, at our home.2nd in the US,being teased by a man,on and on i took the dog outa the situation,he calmed down. The next day he done the same, teasing him,i warned him and my dog, he just went to kick my dog and, wack, brought him straight to the floor. Then he kept saying he's sorry ect.Thing is now my dog knows he can do this..So i keep him close nearly all the time.Knowing 1 day i might have to take him to the vet to get put down if he does this for no reason. I have had him 8 years,it will be the hardest thing i will ever have to do.
